In July 2019, the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) issued guidelines compelling the registration of all migrants in Nigeria on or before 11th January 2019. Diran Falore (Senior Associate), Chiamaka Ibeh (Associate), and Ajoke Ojikutu (Associate) have analysed this mandate in light of Africa’s impending regional integration by virtue of the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA). The article highlights the rationale and benefits of this mandate which include the proper documentation and measurement of the migrant population in Nigeria to generate insights which can be used to drive public policy on migration in the country and the use of the data obtained to tackle security challenges in the country.
